Compulsory Basic Training
You must complete a compulsory basic training course (CBT) before you are allowed to ride a moped or scooter on the road.
The only time you can ride on the road without passing a CBT is
1) under the supervision of an approved instructor as part of the course.
2) if you passed your driving test before
February 1st 2001*
You must pass your CBT and Theory test for
motorcycles before you can take your Moped Practical test. Only upon
completing (and passing) these tests will you have a full moped licence.
* If you passed your driving test before February
1st 2001, you do NOT need to take a CBT course although it is highly
recommended. You are also qualified to ride a moped without L plates.
